We love our AGGV and we can appreciate that when a large corporate body contributes funds to an event, that one could expect to see the corporate sponsor's logo splashed around. But when this years AGGV Moss Street Paint-In was renamed to the "TD Art Gallery Paint-In" ( Really...? TD Art Gallery? ) we placed our tongues firmly in our cheeks and decided to also change our name to the
"TD Collective" for the day.

The day started with rain but was quickly replaced by sun and boatloads of people rolling by our spot.
Visiting with old friends and new ones alike, spun the hands of the clock at lightning speed and we quickly found ourselves being ushered off the street by our megaphone toting police force.

Setup our Art Shack on Brown mountain in Port Renfrew for last last weekend's Tall Tree Fest. Lots of great music, food, sips and art as well. Chris Dobell friend of the Woodpile had been busy with handpainted signage for the event which made for an awesome aesthetic appeal. Live painting, audio collection and a very enjoyable art drop walk. Summer is here, let the goodtimes roll.

Opening Night - "State of the Art" Whistler

OK. So we were a little late to the opening, but the tone was set with an amazing hockey game, a few cocktails and some good company. Hung out with the Ben Tour his wife Dawn and their pal Jose. Saw some great art and met some new amazing artists. Big thanks to Kassia for including us in this years show. Show runs until next Sat April 23rd. Check it out.

The Woodpile will be up at Whistler this weekend for the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival. We'll be in the Grand Foyer of the Whistler Conference Centre taking part in the State of the Art showcase. Come check out the opening on Friday if you can. If you can't make the opening, the show runs until the 23rd.

A lot of kids seemed pretty excited about parts of this years structure, except for the girl in face paint who was clearly having none of it.

At long last the Journey is over. Our friends Tyson & Cloe at Driven To Sustain have been on a cross-continent tour driving their Alt-fuel/Vegi oil powered van. During their tour they attained the world record in distance traveled on alternative fuel. This was a by-product of their goal to inspire others & educate themselves in regards to living sustainably. Also on this journey they agreed to help out the Woodpile collective by droping pieces of our artwork across the continent as they went. The choice was up to them where they dropped the 8 paintings. The photos below show the works and where they were left for the next person to find. See the last posting for the map.

I Dropped by the Boucherat Gallery to hook up with some friends and found a few more! Amy & Ryan were there of http://www.anteism.com/. Harley Smart was back in town visiting from Montreal. Darren Heise was staying with me, visiting from Ontario and Mr. Ben Tour came by for a visit fresh from the Sunshine Coast. I gave a quick guided tour of the show and then we crashed the Phillips Brewing Co."Monday Meeting" for a few pints.

Thanks everyone for coming out to the opening of our new show titled funnily enough "knew".
Friday night was amazing, with so many familiar faces and many new ones as well. Plenty of beers went down and a great time was had by all that attended. The words of praise were appreciated and so were the purchases ( Thanks all of you!) Thanks to Bill & Kirsten of the Boucherat Gallery for handling the crowd and the monetary exchanges. One additional note,
if you plan on visiting the gallery to see our show, the show takes place on two floors. The ground floor is the main gallery and is sat by staff regularily. The upstairs portion of our show, you may need to ask to view as it is sometimes difficult to keep it open due to staffing issues. Be sure to see it all as we would hate for you to miss out on the whole experience.

We were at the opening party of "100 Amigos" at El Kartel in Vancouver this weekend. As always the El Kartel crew pulled off an amazing show. The event was overflowing into the streets and the lineup was still evident as we were leaving for our after party. Beautiful artwork and beautiful people were abundant! Thanks again guys.

Much like the little ones entering their first swim meet, or getting their first job, there is a sense of pride when our offspring branch out into the great unknown of the world. And just like proud parents, Woodpile was lucky enough to see one of our own placed on the auction block this past week. Where did this painting go? Will it have to fight for it's own place in the world? All questions we can't answer, but certainly good value is the reward for those who saw fit to take home this orphan.

Like all big steps in life, this piece did give us one final lesson as it made it's way to places unknown. Victoria's auction community finds the thought of art being created in a garage hilarious...

We wouldn't have it any other way.

Woodpile continues it's Art Drop program with a bit of a twist. WP friends Cloe and Tyson are embarking on an incredible journey. They are driving 45,000 Km using waste vegetable oil as fuel. Their Journey starts on October 1st, in Victoria BC, Canada and will take them across North America teaching those who they meet about sustainability and their part in it. They will also have some Woodpile Art Drops as road trip companions. As they travel they will be dropping our paintings along the way. We will be documenting the pieces in their new settings and checking in with the "Driven to Sustain" team from time to time. Abracadabra is both a local art publication and group art show inspired by the theme of Magic and Metaphysics. The Woodpile was stoked to be included in this years mix of artists. We unveiled our newest painting "Neverglades.

WP Paint-In Through the Outdoors

Summer has landed and the weekend weather was fine once again for the Moss St Paint-In. 35,000 spectators and 4 hours flew by in a blur of greetings, salmon burgers, a broad selection of dogs, impatient police ( well, one in particular ) and even a little time spent creating. This show was solid. Crazy busy...we've never been in a show that was this publicized and hyped. If you had hours to stand in a line...you could eventually get in, and if you had another couple of hours to kill in a line up, you could buy some art as well. Over the top. See you next year!

Into the New Studio

After much strategy the new studio is taking shape. It's complete with roof and floor, and piled high with positive WP mojo. We will have two main walls to work with, much like our old haunt but with more storage thanks to some reclaimed cabinets from the reno. Headquarters is going to be fun to customize, and flexible with tools and tables on casters.

New "archive" link on the top right will take you to our growing image database including listings of our collab paintings, prints and installations, along with continuing documentation of the Artdrop program.

Hey whats up people? Hope you are all ready for Christmas!...cuz the decorations are going up around town as I type this. I always love seeing plastic skeletons and Jack-o-lanterns fighting it out with Reindeer and Santa decorations on the tops of retail shelving. Holiday Battles rule.
